WHERE?

OWR PLACE...

This is Iceland. The land of fire and ice. Few people know anything about this island, but for the little things heard about geysirs and volcanos, glaciers and icebergs. Yet, it is the most beautiful place on earth. And only he, who hasn't seen it with his eyes, cannot comprehend the majestic power of nature. Those who have seen it, will remember it forever.

Iceland is most famous for its numerous hotsprings. These are powerful streams of boiling water and fume, errupting from the depths of the lava rocks that cover a great part of the island. The most famous is Geysir, after which all other springs of this kind were named. Apart from hotsprings and mudsprings, Iceland is abundant in volcanos. The biggest volcano is Hekla, which is also the most active one in Europe.

When the first settlers saw Iceland in the distance, the first thing which made impression were the ice-topped mountains crowning the island. Later, people were able to explore the interior of the country and discover the stunning beauty of its scenery. There are no words to describe such spectacular sights as the Gullfoss waterfalls, the Strуkkur hotspring, the endless ice deserts on Vatnajökull and the serene green beauty of lake Myvatn.

Icelanders proudly stick to tradition. They respect their ancestors, the family customs and the folk holidays. The Icelandic nation, though very little in number (280,000 inh.) is very united and patriotic. What is usually connected with Icelandic tradition are the numerous folk festivals throughout the year, including the traditional vнking fests; sheep-breeding, fishing and especially horse-riding. The Icelandic pony is world-famous and is a unique breed, typical only for this land.

THE EVERYDAY JOGGING ROUTE

Hafnarfjörður is the third largest town in Iceland, though it has a population of only 15,000. It is situated in the outskirts of Reykjavík, some 15 kilometers south of the capital. Access to the Keflavík national airport and the whole interior of the country is quite easy, thanks to the main national road Hringvegur.
Hafnarfjörður is the headquarters of the HFJ-gang, our home, our adventure ground and a starting point for the many exciting excursions we like to make. It is the site of the most ancient ritual connected with the HFJ-gang, the daily jogging. We haven't missed a weekday morning since the start of time!
